Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Shortlist ("Shortlist," "we," "us") collects when you use findwithshortlist.com and related services (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.

1. Information we collect

From homeowners who post a job

• Your name, mobile phone number and, if you give it, your email address
• Your town or ZIP code
• Job details: type of work, description, timing, budget and the Pros you chose
• Photos you upload
• Your agreement to be contacted about your job, and when you gave it

From contractors who apply

• Business name, owner's name, phone, email, trade, service area and years in business
• License number, insurance company and a link to your public reviews
• Verification results we record: whether your license, insurance and background check were confirmed, and your public rating and review count
• Background-check results from our third-party provider, collected only with your separate written authorization
• Billing details, once subscriptions start. Card numbers are handled by our payment processor, not stored by us.

Collected automatically

• Basic technical data our hosting providers record when you visit, such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, kept in their server logs
• If you sign in to an account, a login token stored in your browser so you stay signed in

We don't currently use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.

2. How we use information

• To send your job to the Pros you chose, or to match you with Pros if you ask us to
• To pass quotes between homeowners and Pros, and to contact you about your job by text, call or email
• To review contractor applications and keep checking that listed Pros meet our standards
• To bill Pros for their subscription
• To prevent fraud, spam and misuse, and to keep the Service secure
• To understand how the Service is used and improve it
• To follow the law and enforce our terms of use

3. Who we share it with

• Pros you choose. They see your job details, photos, first name and last initial, and your town or ZIP. They do not see your phone number or email until you decide to hire them or ask us to share it.
• Homeowners. For listed Pros, homeowners can see the business name, trade, service area, years in business, public rating and verification badges. They never see a Pro's personal phone, email, license number or background-check results.
• Service providers who help us run Shortlist, under contracts that limit their use of your information: our database and file storage (Supabase) and website hosting (Netlify). As we add them, this will also include providers for background checks, text messaging and payments. We'll list them here when they start.
• Legal reasons. If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Shortlist.
• Business changes. If Shortlist is sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner, who must follow this policy.

4. How long we keep it

We keep job records and photos for up to 24 months after a job closes, then delete them, unless we need them longer to resolve a dispute or meet a legal requirement. We keep contractor records while the Pro is listed and for up to 3 years afterward. Background-check results are kept only as long as the law requires.

5. How we protect it

The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Job photos are stored privately and are not publicly viewable. Access to homeowner contact details is limited to Shortlist staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as the law requires.

6. Your choices

• See, correct or delete your information. Email us at findwithshortlist@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first.
• Text messages. Reply STOP to any text from us to stop receiving them. Message and data rates may apply.
• Emails. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
• Your state's privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under state law, such as the right to know what we collect or to opt out of certain uses. Contact us to make a request. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.

7. Children

The Service is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes here with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we'll also notify you by email or text where we can.
